Humanity, mapping in the Karlsruhe Palace

16/08/2023
From August 16 to September 17, 2023, the Schlosslichtspiele light festival was held in Karlsruhe, Germany's UNESCO City of Media Arts known for its rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit. A fascinating display of creativity and cutting-edge technology that has turned the city center into a multimedia visual spectacle space for all audiences. During four weeks the facade of the 170 meter wide baroque castle has been transformed into an open space for the art of video mapping and "Humanity" has been one of the architectural 3D mapping projects produced for the festival and awarded at the BBBank Awards. Silvia Isach's work reflects on the contemporary person, a digitized and interconnected society that promises infinite possibilities but, nevertheless, information overload, ever-growing acceleration and virtuality foster alienation, indifference and lack of identity. "Humanity" proposes a sustainable balance between new technologies and people, valuing humanism and giving more space to our emotions.
With a total of 285,000 visitors, the video mapping projection at the festival of light in this German city has successfully elevated the mapping profession combining technology, unlimited creative invention and audience participation. A memorable and captivating experience in which the attending public has been transported to a world where the building becomes a canvas and the light becomes the brushstroke of digital art.
